it depend on how you want to reside. You can also take a look to http://www.france-chambres-hotes.fr/. Chambres & table d'hotes (trasnlation : Room & Table hosting) is pretty cheap and cool to discover an area because you have rooms and breakfast and in some you can have a dinner to local guy so you can have typical meal with lot of good information about the area.
